"...Fantastic Pianist brings an All Star line-up featuring flautist Gareth Lockrane."

Pianist/composer Kate Williams leads an exciting  quartet, featuring the remarkable talents of Gareth Lockrane (flutes), Jeremy Brown (double bass), and Tristan Mailliot (drums).

Kate Williams studied music at the University of East Anglia, and later attended the Guildhall School of Music's postgraduate jazz course. Her debut CD 'Sycamore Song' was released to critical acclaim in 1999 and a year later she received the John Dankworth Award for ‘Talent Deserving Wider Recognition’.  Her second album “Looking Out” was released in 2002 and a trio recording 'Scenes and Dreams' was launched in September 2005.

In addition to working with her own band,  Kate has played with numerous names on the UK jazz scene, including Bobby Wellins, Julian Siegel, Juliet Kelly and John Etheridge. She also currently teaches piano and jazz ensembles at Richmond Adult and Community College, London. With this line-up, Kate displays the rich and varied textures of her writing to the full which is so brilliantly demonstrated on her most recent album ‘The Embrace’ released on 33 Records in  2008.

Gareth Lockrane (flute) co-founded the band ‘Grooveyard’ with saxophonist Alex Garnett, winning the Best European Jazz Group award at the 2003 Granada Jazz Festival. Gareth has also performed with The James Taylor Quartet, Hans Koller Big Band, Anita Wardell, and the celebrated late South African Pianist Bheki Mseleku.

Jeremy Brown (double bass) is first call for many top jazz acts currently working on the UK and international scene including the Pete King Quartet, Julian Joseph, Brad Meldhau, Stacey Kent and Curtis Stigers. "...deftly supportive bassist and one of the most sought-after bass men in the country" John Fordham, The Guardian

Tristan Mailliot (drums) has worked with many leading UK and international artists including Art Farmer, Jim Hall, Claire Martin, Peter King and Stan Tracey. He is currently working with the Christian Brewer Quintet, John Critchinson Quartet, and Gareth Williams Trio.

“A worthy addition to the ranks of British jazz composer-pianists, Kate Williams has the knack of making a simple trio or quartet sound much bigger. She does this not by creating sound and fury, but through a wonderful ever-changing variety of harmony and texture.” Dave Gelly, The Observer

” A superbly lucid and inventive pianist and composer.”  Humphrey Lyttleton, Radio 2.
