"...Bass-led Quartet with the critically acclaimed Davies reworking the classics."
Featuring some of the most talked-about players on the UK jazz scene, the Riaan Vosloo Quartet returns to Alimentum. The quartet comprises of Perrier Jazz Award winning Saxophonist Josephine Davies, BBC Jazz Award winner Tim Giles (drums), the in-demand Ross Stanley (keyboards) and accomplished bassist and composer Riaan Vosloo.
Hailing from sunny Devon, Vosloo has worked with artists such as Keith Tippett, Trilok Gurtu, Andy Shepherd, Spring Heel Jack, Liam Noble and Pee Wee Ellis, and performed at festivals across Europe, including multiple Glastonbury appearances. |
After recording a plethora of original albums with Nostalgia 77, Examples of Twelves, and The Twelves Trio, Vosloo has brought Tim, Ross and James together to play the music of earlier jazz greats, enjoying the warm bath of vintage standards and Coltrane classics. Their recently recorded album of this material (featuring a rather super version of Allsopp burning through Giant Steps) will be released on Impossible Ark Records on vinyl, to complete the retro chic.
“...Bassist Riaan Vosloo is the rock around which everyone else swirls.” John L Walters, The Guardian
“...It is Vosloo, though, who is clearly the heartbeat of the band, with his booming, generous sound and his sheer enthusiasm and energy.” - Chris Parker,Vortex web site
