"...Sultry-voiced singer's debut at the club with her top class band."
Since launching herself on the London jazz scene, Ruthie has been hailed a “rising star” (Time Out) and counts Wynton Marsalis and Elton John as admirers of her engaging performing style and evocative, sensual voice.
She has appeared regularly at London’s Pizza on the Park and Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho as well as at jazz clubs and festivals across the UK. Her successful Edinburgh Festival ‘04 show led to a BBC Radio Scotland “Pick of the Fringe” live broadcast and an invitation to the ’06 New Zealand Festival. |
Ruthie’s eclectic repertoire includes French chansons (Piaf, Brel), German “Kabaret” (Weill, Hollaender) as well as some startling jazz arrangements of Benjamin Britten, Pink Floyd, Stephen Sondheim and Astor Piazzolla. Influenced by Blossom Dearie, Peggy Lee, Chet Baker and Ute Lemper as well as contemporary classical and world music, Ruthie has carved out an individual niche for herself with powerful and passionate performances that combine the personal and the political.
Her ‘Refashioned’ album was launched to critical acclaim in 2008 with a live performance on Radio 3’s “In Tune” and selected as the London Evening Standard Jazz CD of the Month. In 2009 her music & poetry show UTTER:JAZZ had an Arts Council/Jazz Services Tour and led to sell-out performances.
Tonight at Alimentum she brings a fantastic line up with her featuring pianist Alex Stanford, bassist Jonny Gee and top drummer Andrea Trillo.
